Enrollment in the Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) only takes a short amount of time, but the positive learning and growing experience for your child will last a lifetime. We use the information on the application form to make the best fit possible between our program and your child.
Once you have been enrolled, the next step is to sign up for classes! Through CVA, parents and students can choose from the list of core classes along with a wide selection of everything from Greek mythology to forensic science. Your child will be expected to complete 10 hours of course work a week in Kindergarten, 20 hours a week in Grades 1 through 3, and 25 hours of course work a week in grades 4 through 12; but it is up to you how quickly your child moves through the curriculum.
You will be assigned a Student Learning Plan (SLP) Consultant who will assisist you in making your class selections, and then monitor and guide your child’s progress. For on-line classwork, you will be given a user name and password and then be ready to begin classes. You will then contact your SLP Consultant every week. They will be available by email or telephone any time you have a question or concern.
Learning through the CVA is about flexibility, excellence and achievement. It is also about how you and your family choose to spend your time. We seek to give you the opportunity to set your own schedule, choose your child’s own educational track and spend your time in the way that matters most to you.
