How does a student enroll in Columbia Virtual Academy? Print E-mail

At CVA, we've always been dedicated to providing a personalized and flexible experience, beginning with Enrollment. Click here to provide your basic contact information, and a Columbia Virtual Academy Inquiry Specialist will contact you by phone or email to personally answer your questions. Our Inquiry Specialist will then walk you through the required enrollment documents, and depending on the time of year, will eventually introduce you and your student to the Advisory Teacher that will work with your family.

What Does Columbia Virtual Academy participation look and feel like?

Becoming enrolled in Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) only takes a short amount of time, but the positive learning and growing experience for your child will last a lifetime. Once you've completed the enrollment process, the next step is to sign up for classes and make choices about curricular materials! Through CVA, parents and students can choose from the list of core online classes along with a wide selection of online electives, from Greek mythology to forensic science. If a more traditional approach suits your family better, the curriculum choices available are extensive! Your Advisory Teacher can help you select the best curriculum for your student.

Your child, if enrolled in CVA full-time, will be expected to complete 10 hours of course work a week in Kindergarten, 20 hours a week in Grades 1 through 3, and 25 hours of course work a week in grades 4 through 12; but it is up to you how quickly your child moves through the curriculum. Annual assessment allows for measurement of growth year to year.

You will be assigned an Advisory Teacher who can assist you in making course and curriculum selections, and then partner with you to monitor and guide your child's progress. High school students also communicate with a Content Specialist assigned in each academic area. Content Specialists are Washington State "Highly Qualified Teachers" and part of the team of individuals dedicated to your child's success. Weekly contact with your Advisory Teacher insures that our partnership with you and your student is an effective part of your student's academic growth.

Learning through CVA is about flexibility, excellence and achievement. It is also about how you and your family choose to spend your time. We seek to give you the opportunity to set your own schedule, choose your child's own educational track and spend your time in the way that matters most to you.

We look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your student.
