THE COLUMBIA VIRTUAL ACADEMY MISSION

Parents have the fundamental right to choose the education they desire for their children. Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) is committed to offering parents and their children the choice of schooling that is best for them.  Each CVA student receives a program designed specially for his or her learning styles, talents, interests, and other learning needs.  We serve families with maximum personalization and flexibility.

We seek public, private, and home-based educators that share in this mission to partner with us.

CVA is a nonprofit curriculum provider for families who choose home-based education for their children. We offer individualized traditional book coursework plus on-line "virtual" instruction to any Washington student at no cost to the student's family.

We serve students who want to enrich their traditional classroom experience by taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses that their current school day schedule cannot accommodate.  CVA is ideal for students who are at risk, have special learning needs, or are homebound for a period of time. We can tailor the learning experience to meet unique family goals or circumstances.

A student has unparalleled educational flexibility with CVA. Whether working on an assignment at home, in the public library, or on a family trip, students are free to move through the curriculum as rapidly as they wish. Students do have the opportunity to demonstrate to teachers, parents, and peers what they have learned.  CVA’s curriculum meets Washington State Standards.

The CVA network consists of public schools in a growing coalition  of districts.  As such, your child's schooling is tuition free.   Your curriculum resources are also provided free of charge.  For access to on-line course work, a computer will be provided for families who need this additional assistance.  For additional learning activities, you may access a discretionary student fund.  This fund can vary from $400 to $1200 depending upon the plan you customize for your student. You may direct these funds for classes like art, music lessons, dance, and karate offered near your home. You may also draw on the fund for field trips. Each student fund may be applied to any instructional materials or services that directly support your personalized learning plan.
